OVERVIEW
The AR IoT privacy app was developed to provide insights into data collection of IoT
devices. Our app recognizes unique markers to detect IoT devices and visualize their sensors
in augmented reality. Depending on sensors and technologies built in the device, the sensors
are displayed through icons. Additionally, we provide a data protection rating and a
creepyness score
visualized through an emoji based on Mozilla's privacy not included guide. In the same way as in the
guide, we also implemented a creepyness voting slider.
We implemented three different designs and conducted a user study to compare them and
receive feedback. In the future it would be possible to replace markers by device
recognition.
MY ROLE
Group project with two fellow students. I was responsible for including the AR Foundations Framework, implementing the marker recognition and the interactions. I also contributed to voting data export. Together we developed the concept for the app and conducted a user study.
